Xfce probably offers better functionality, but just to say, no way does it consume less resources. LXDE is basically configured Openbox and a couple small apps. Xfce's WM alone is probably bigger than all that 
Not that Xfce is bad at all.

Lightweight WM and programs on a good computer = pure ownage. I am serious, its blazing fast, and unlink windows, it never slows down! (Hey that rhymes!)
