Is anyone else getting frequent (2x/day) lockups of KDE4? First the panel and "start" menu become unresponsive, then everything chokes.
I'm not sure whether this is because of recent KDE4.2 updates or nvidia driver updates (I'm running 180.35 right now).
I'm probably going to revert to an earlier nvidia driver, unless somebody has some evidence otherwise.
Meanwhile, I'm back in good old openbox. KDE4.2 was looking pretty good there for a couple of weeks, though.

Are we ralking KDE4 via Arch repos or KDEmod? The later is rock stable here, with Nvidia 180.22.
Do you have any plasmoids installed from AUR? I had the Custom Weather Plasmoid installed-and that was causing numerous problems...once I got rid of it, things are happy now.

dhave, numerous problems have been discussed on the NVNEWS forums regarding the instability of the 180.35 driver, I am using the 180.29 and stock Arch KDE 4.2.1 with absolutely no problems, try downgrading, it's in testing currently because of the aforementioned problems.

i were having rpoblems with nvidia 180.35(and kde 4.2.1). then i upgraded libdrm to latest version and had no issues again for a day and more. for some reason(can't remember why now) i uninstalled nvidia 180.35 and reinstalled the 180.29 ones. when i remember wth did i do this i reinstalled 180.35 but then it crashed as soon as i got to the kde login screen(on multiple boots).
so yeah, you might get by by upgrading your libdrm version and if this works you should report this here or at the nvidia forums so the nvidia engineers can bullseye the problem.

O.K., thanks, everybody. I think for now I'll revert to 180.29. Then this weekend I'll try to test 180.35 with updated libdrm and maybe have something to contribute to the troubleshooting.
While I was back in openbox, I was surprised how much I actually missed KDE4.2. I never thought I'd get addicted to the whiz-bang special effects, but I guess I am.

I was having weird problems with 180.35:
- Konsole tabs would not close, just hang
- System settings would hang after closing and be unable to restart
- Other KDE apps would freeze
Once I downgraded back to 180.29, things started working again. Woohoo!

I had the same problem with the same drivers, I was using KDEMod. I changed to Xfce and that solved my problem. I'm still using the 180.35 drivers.

Pretty much the same symptoms I was having.

Same here.

FWIW, I went ahead and updated to 180.37, and so far (one day later) I'm not seeing the problems I had with 180.35.
