Thanks for the pointer, but it says there its fixed. But it does not seem to be.
Well, they say to remove
kdemod-extragear-digikam
and then you can upgrade.
They then say, force the reinstall of digikam. But then they say it is fixed.
But I removed
kdemod-extragear-digikam
then upgraded and that worked but then i can't reinstall kdemod-extragear-digikam
I have not tried force option, but I am trying to figure out if it is indeed fixed or not. Also should I be posting there instead of here?

Better to only force the package that needs to be forced. Doing a pacman -Syuf is asking for trouble.

No need to brute force. Too much risk, IMHO.
I went the easy way. Moved the conflicting files to some spare folder. All went smoothly afterwards.
As there are only some conflicting icons you may probably simply delete them as well.
To know or not to know ...
... the questions remain forever.

Spot on. This is an obvious candidate for "-f" to get around a minor error. At worst you'd get a handful of wrong icons displayed until the next update. Immediately calling pacman again, I'd just do a "-Suf" and omit the "y" as there is a small possibility some other package happened to appear that also won't install without "-f" but had more serious conflicts.

My point in saying Syuf is bad is because it will use a force on ALL the packages being upgraded, so I prefer to use just pacman -Sf [package] so I know what exactly is being forced. If the issue really is just with the one package there's no difference, but it seems to be a bad idea to get in the habit of using force with an upgrade. Though now that I think about it, vacant seems right that not using the y will be safe enough.
