Change package name to GnomeSword to Xiphos

GnomeSword (http://gnomesword.sourceforge.net/) is going to change the name of the project to Xiphos with the 3.0 release.  Can someone please give me some suggestions to help make this transition go as smoothly as possible?  I would like to keep in mind the users that may be using the yaourt application or other similar applications as well as the people downloading it directly.  Thanks in advanced.

Re: Change package name to GnomeSword to Xiphos

Maybe it would be enough to use some post-update/post-install messages.

Otherwise, you could add a big red message to the build script that says that gnomesword has changed to xiphos and then return 1 in the build function to prevent it from building. I'm not sure if that would be encouraged, but I think it would work.

I have a few other ideas, but they would probably be even less encouraged and might lead to abuse if they became common knowledge, so I'll shut up now.

I agree with Xyne. Just notify users the best that you can, and orphan the package.

And use conflicts= and provides= in your new Xiphos package.

And also replaces=, this field is exactly made for situations like these. Please also snd a mail to aur-general when you are ready. The old package then can be deleted.

Remember, though, that replaces= only works with pacman -Su - in other words, this package would need to be in a valid repo for it to replace gnomesword automatically.

I would recommend orphaning it instead. People are going to look for this package; It's very popular. If it's still in AUR, some users will read the comments and know to look for the new package. Otherwise I can see someone creating a new one.

Maybe it is time then to move it to community.

Thanks for adding Xiphos to community.  Is it opening fine for you with gnome?  I am having some issues http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=65928.
