xfce panel not keeping settings

I have a small but annoying problem, everytime I relogin the xfce panel loses all the settings, i. e. I want only a small panel with a few icons and no clock or task bar and on top of the screen, but I always get a big panel on the bottom and with all the things I don't want.

I have the the option of saving the session automatically on so I don't know why the panel settings are not saved.

Any help? In which file are the panel settings saved?

Thanks!

$XDG_CONFIG_HOME/xfce4/panel.

Thanks Wintervenom, solved now. It was really a silly problem: the file was write protected, don't ask me why.
