How to tell eclipse where to install plugins

Hi guys,

as I want to keep my eclipse up to date via pacman, I want to save my eclipse plugins somewhere save in my home directory, so that they won't be overwriten when pacman updates my eclipse. Another benefit would be that every user can install his own plugins without the need of having write access to /opt/eclipse.

Does anybody know how to tell eclipse where to save its plugins?

These two old threads discuss the same issue:
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=12406
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=26723
But they don't come up with a solution really.

TIA,
Blackhole
