wierd network problem

Im running arch_x64 on my t61p. When im at work and connected to the network, there is absolutely no problems, or what so ever.

But when im at home, and on the network (cable or wifi, dosent matter), it's VERY slow, sometimes it stalls, (i have a 20mbit/2mbit connection).

Then clever users, will say, it's something with the network at home, BUT, i have 2 other computers , (one laptop and a server), which is running like charm (debian and ubuntu)

I have tried to change the dns address in resolv.conf between my internet provider, opendns, and router ip.

nothing seems to work,

i know it's a wierd problem, and the thing which is frustrating me, is that the other pc's have no issues

Re: wierd network problem

I believe it could be the linux network module or software that doesn't work as usually. Why not test your computer with a livecd(ubuntu, fedora etc) and see if that changes anything. If you still have same issue, then I believe it's a cable issue or hardware configuration problem.

Re: wierd network problem

I have just tried a ubuntu 8.10 live cd, and have browsed for half hour, and haven\t got any problems, everything seems to work like a charmm.

So it looks like a archlinux problem, but the wierd part, is when i connect by computer at my work, there is NO problems.

Looks like a dns problem, like it cant resolve the address

Re: wierd network problem

do you know how to check if that's the case? Have you compared the configurations on both Arch linux and Ubuntu?

Re: wierd network problem

I have just installed a CrunchBang linux on a spare hdd, and set network to dhcp, and resolv.conf is equal to the one in arch.

and everything works fine,

but still the same in arch.. anything useful ?

Re: wierd network problem

There are some diagnostic tools that you can try using at work and at home comparing the network connectivity, likewise you could test distros with these diagnostics to understand the difference in network connectivity.

Re: wierd network problem

Well, i have the problems in a x64 install, so i tried to reinstall to a x32 instead, and now there isn\t any problems.

so it seems to be a 64bit driver problem i think

but thanksanyway
