What do you mean? That the modules be installed in /lib/modules/2.6.28-custom ?

Yes yes, didn't explain correctly .... the kernel modules yes, but fglrx and virtualbox modules for example, I need to recompile them and I'm not sure where they will end up, will figure it out when I give it a try
Don't worry, your idea sounds good and so far the feedback you got is good, I bet this will become a popular pkgbuild

Haaa.. yes indeed. But then you are building a custom kernel, you'll always have to rebuild your modules.

Yes sure, what I don't now is if they will coexist with the versions for stock kernel, and if they can what and how to do it .... anyway, playing with custom kernels is not for the faint of heart , I'll figure it out, google, the wiki and the forum are my friends

Yeah the point here is to have two kernels side by side. So you will need to recompile your modules in this new directory.

Take a look at "uname -r". It will give you your kernel name. So to get the directory you would type: /lib/modules/`uname -r` for example. Its probably just an argument to give to make and/or configure. Take a look at some modules in aur for other kernels...

I've already compiled and used a custom kernel all day, no problem found by far.

Great job big_gie! It's perfect to test harder kernel configurations!

Great news all!

The modifications has been included in the official pkgbuild! A signoff request for a new kernel has been posted by tobias:

Hi guys, new kernel adresses the following things:
- changes for better customizing the default kernel included
http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/12384
--> firmware needed to be split off the package.
       It is now called kernel26-firmware
[...]

This is great news!  It means anybody will be able to compile a custom kernel easily! This kernel is actually in testing.

I just installed testing's kernel, I'll reboot in a couple of hours to verify it. I'll compile the stock -ARCH kernel, and a -custom one also. Please test add your test reports too!!!
