dell xps m1330 frezing

Since yersterday I get random freezes, the system locks up and nothing works except a hard reboot.

I've searched for a possible solution but nothing seems to work, I did not do any upgrades before it startet to happen.

I've got a nvidia geeforce card on this model, when the system freezes the 'lock' and 'home' led keep blinking (dont know if thats any use).

Also i've searched in the logs but dont really seem to find anything there.

I konw this isn't much information but I also dont really know what to post here and maybe someone had similar problems.

OK, after doing some experiments it seems that the freezing occurs only when connected to the internet. (i use knetworkmanager)

Re: dell xps m1330 frezing

Hi, I own a XPS M1330 as well and I did experience the kernel panics you describe.
They used to happen when connected via wireless to some access points, especially Apple's. My wifi card is an Intel 4965.
These crashes resolved spontaneously when I updated to kernel 2.6.28, so try doing a full upgrade of your system and see if that helps.
Cheers wink

Sorry to hear that, but I can't help you with network manager as I don't use it. Is your wifi card detected (you can see this by doing ifconfig -a)? If it is detected, try using netcfg.
Bye

Re: dell xps m1330 frezing

Assuming your wireless lan has WPA or WPA2, try to connect manually:

wpa_passphrase YOUR_ESSID > wpa.conf
sudo wpa_supplicant -D wext -i wlan0 -c ./wpa.conf
(in another terminal) dhcpcd wlan0

Which card do you have btw?

Broadcom BCM 4328. I've tried the method above but I get an 'association request to the driver failed'.

Are you using ndiswrapper? If yes, I'm not familiar with it and I can't help with that, sorry.
