i can answer to some extent.

music: mdp with ncmpcpp, moc, or cmus
mail: mutt (ftw!), or pine, etc
irc: irssi, weechat
filemanager: mkdir/cp/mv/rm, mc, or vimfm

and so so many more.

for screenshots check out the monthly screenshot thread for anyone using awesome or xmonad (or any tiler for that matter)

ssh + bored at work = a love for CLI apps smile

wm: xfce
music: mpd + sonata
network: network manager (since the 0.7 release it has improved substantially... I have yet to find any reason to ditch it... it handles switching between wired and mutiple wireless profiles (WPA/2/WEP have wored just fine).
