Scanner permissions driving me (in)sane!

Hi all,

Recently my user has become unable to access the scanner.  My user has all the required privileges, in scanner group, lp, hal etc.
I have followed several threads...

on this kind of problem but none seem to have any positive results.

My scanner(s) are canoscan 570u/670u and all worked fine until the last 2 or 3 weeks.

I can scan as root but this is not acceptable for long term use.

Anybody got an idea or willing to 'hold my hand' through fixing this issue?
