Disable Hal / PolicyKit automounting

Hello everyone!

I'm sorry to make this post, but I'm lost. I googled, read the wiki and I'm still not sure how can I do what I want.

I know I cannot remove Hal (xorg-server need it) but I don't want it to automount USB / CD / DVD / external Hard drive / everything I plug into my computer.

What is the proper way for that? Create a preference.fdi, to edit /etc/PolicyKit/PolicyKit.conf or any other file (Dbus !?) ?

If I have a proper response, I will add it to the wiki for others smile

Thank for your help.

HAL shouldn't automount anything. What filemanager or desktop environment are you using? And you can remove HAL if you want, you just have to recompile xorg-server with "--disable-config-hal" configure option. You can also disable hotplugging from xorg.conf and then remove HAL from daemons.

Just edit your /etc/fstab to mount the devices you want and it will overwrite any automount instructions of your filemanager.

On a side note, HAL keeps just a list of the hardware connected to your pc. It's the filemanager (usually) of your desktop environment of choice which mounts your drives. So you really should be looking into your filemanager.
