I recently decided to use XCompMgr again, I previously had it working fine, three or four months ago.
Now, when I start it, all my windows disappear, but parts will reappear when I hover over them.
This is with stock nVidia drivers, composite enabled in my xorg.conf, and Arch completely up to date.
The below image should have PyPanel at the bottom, and the half rendered window is supposed to be Sonata.
Any help would be great, I'm just itching for those nice drop shadows.

Try launching xcompmgr before all your other stuff.
I can't tell what WM you are using, but just put xcompmgr in your autostarted programs before pypanel, etc and restart X.

It's Openbox, and in the picture, XCompMgr was started before everything else, in my .xinitrc

EDIT:
whoa, alright then; guess my thread is a totally different xcompmgr-xorg bug. i still wish you luck and please let me know if you find an actual fix.
keep in mind, downgrading xorg to 1.4.2 means you might have to downgrade xf86-input-keyboard/mouse too

I don't even have QT installed, and as mentioned in the OP, it's messing with Sonata, which PyGTK, and you can see Conky working fine in the bottom right corner.
I'll try downgrading Xorg and see if it helps.

I always thought this was a conky problem when not run in its own window, i think it redraws the whole desktop every couple seconds and doesn't work well with xcompmgr, didn't look into it much just started using own_window yes if i use conky.

Well, I just killed conky, and it works fine.
And I run it with the own_window yes option too.
Looks like I might have to choose between the two.
