Re: how to make X load faster?

Can you post /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc or ~/.xinitrc (whichever one you use) and /var/log/Xorg.0.log, please?

Also if anyone else can solve this problem, it would be useful to users, like me, who switch between console and X11 often.

Re: how to make X load faster?

mv ~/.config/openbox/autostart.sh ~/.config/openbox/autostart.sh.backup
touch ~/.config/openbox/autostart.sh

see if that speeds it up.  you don't really need an autostart.sh, mine only sets the things you have in .xinitrc anyway.  if that does fix your problem, just find a way to set the background (feh, nitrogen, etc) and put a line for that in .xinitrc.  then you'd be all set.

FWIW:
.xinitrc:

#!/bin/sh
# Executed by startx

# pre X set-up stuff
xset s 600 600 &
xrdb $HOME/.Xdefaults &                         # just incase
xcompmgr -cCfF & # unstable with new xorg :(
eval `cat $HOME/.fehbg` &                       # restore background
numlockx on & # numlock on if it's not
urxvtd & # speed up terminals

# launch the WM
exec openbox-session

autostart.sh

# This shell script is run before Openbox launches.
# Environment variables set here are passed to the Openbox session.

# system-wide support stuff
#. $GLOBALAUTOSTART

# start _with_ openbox
# removed -- see ~/.xinitrc

# start _after_ openbox
(sleep 1 && bmpanel arch) &
(sleep 1 && conky) &
(sleep 3 && synergys) &

and no slowdown here smile
