no network in using old kernel after a new kernel compilation

Hi all,
I have just installed arch for the first time, and after I compiled the kernel (traditional way),  I have had problems with my ethernet card.
When I start arch with my original (old) kernel it says that "eth0 unknown interface no such device" (my newly compiled kernel doesn't boot properly yet).

I assume the error comes from having compiled the new kernel since it's the only "weird" move I did before this error though I had compiled the kernel two times in the same manner without any problem.

Does anyone have an idea?
Thanks in advance!!

ps: I can login and use KDE, but the mouse doesn't work anymore sad (but this is another problem...)

Re: no network in using old kernel after a new kernel compilation

Are you sure the kernel module for you network card is loaded? I dont see how compiling a new kernel will effect the old one.. unless you compiled it with -ARCH prefix and it installed the new modules to the old location.
