Hi, all.
As an Arch newbie, I am getting to grips with package management. Looks pretty good. I was wondering, when I'm in the X environment, is there such a thing as an Update Notifier, that periodically checks for updates?
I know it's lazy, but I like to
Work smart, not hard.
Any advice appreciated.
Cheers,
Chris.

There are many. Conky's a good place for one:

If you prefer GUI, I would suggest Shaman. It includes an icon in the systray to keep you informed about updates.
However if you want more information about your system I would also sugest conky, there is also a nice thread on this forum with lots of example's/screenshots.

Thanks, guys.
To be honest, I will probably try both.

Is this the app that has a pacman (the game) icon?

Dunno about the icons (I have no icons in my OpenBox menu), what I do know is that when you start Shaman an icon appears in the systray looking like a ghost (from the game). I believe that the color of the ghost changes if there are updates available, but I'm not sure about that. I don't have it installed myself (I prefer conky and updating from the commandline).

Yes, the systray icon is sometimes the character Pacman. Most of the time it is a blue ghost from Pacman

You can also check aurnotify and pacmansentry in AUR

When Shaman is installing packages etc., it shows an animated Pacman in the system tray. Om nom nom.

Just installed pacupdate, looks promising. Also looked at one called Alunn, but it pulled in quite a lot of stuff.

I'll try pacupdate for a day or so, then look at Shaman.
