One more Skype sound problem

Finally, Skype almost working now.  I can make and receive phone calls. Sound quality was kinda bad on my end -- people complained that hear my voice strongly distorted. But after messing around with alsamixer, I managed to tune it to almost Windows Vista quality, though the process is highly non-intuitive.

Ok, I still have minor problem. I am running Arch64 on HP Pavillion dv9000 ( dv9410us, to be exact). I am speaking through Skype with the help of mic/headphones connected to mic and headphones connectors. When someone calls me, I hear the calling melody only through headphones, but not also through laptop speakers.

So, if the headphones are not on my ears, I am missing phone calls.

There is an option to ring PC speakers in Windows version of Skype. In Linux version the same functionality is provided, I guess, through Options -> Sound devices ->Ringing. I tried all devices options in Ringing:

1. Default  device  (default)
2. HDA Nvidia (hw:NVidia,0)
3. HDA Nvidia (plughw:NVidia,0)
2. HDA Nvidia (hw:NVidia,1)
3. HDA Nvidia (plughw:NVidia,1)
4. hdmi
5. dmixout

but nothing helped.

If this problem will be solved, I DON'T NEED WINDOWS ANYMORE!

Arch64 really changed for good lately, I want to hug and thank all Arch64 development team.

Long live Arch64!

Re: One more Skype sound problem

we'll need more information.. are you using alsa, or OSS?  and which version of skype?
I use OSS, and bin32-skype-oss.. there's no 64bit skype that i know of..
I believe you need alsa-oss if you use alsa.

Re: One more Skype sound problem

Well, unless you have an headset, which it doesn't seem to be the case, then skype and alsa are doing what they are supposed to. If you plug your headphones the speakers should get muted so no way any sound will come out from there. If sound still came out on Vista when you connected your headphones then you have changed some configuration or something was not working properly (drivers or some software) which wouldn't surprise me actually.

Re: One more Skype sound problem

Once again, there are no problems under Vista at all, and there is one minor problem under Linux.

Description:

When headset connectors are plugged in, the speakers and internal mic are disconnected.

When headset is not plugged in, I can use Skype through build into laptop internal mic and hear another party through the speaker.

Minor problem is -- if someone calls me and headset is plugged in, I can hear calling buzz only through headset, while BOTH laptop speaker  and headset have to produce this buzz.
