Hi there,
I decided to build KDE 4.2.63, which is official "stable" release of unstable KDE 4.3. I know there is KDE4 svn repo, but this is little bit more stable then those packages built stright from trunk.
The repo is not working anymore. Please use kde-unstable instead.

That's not real a beta; the first beta will be released in May. Btw: I have got build-scripts for KDE: http://git.archlinux.de/build-scripts/tree/kde If you're lucky you just have to adjust the config file and it will build.

You can find KDEmod 4.3 development packages in the KDEmod unstable repo: http://kdemod.ath.cx/repo/kdemod-unstable/ if you prefer KDEmod

Hell, last time I checked it it was not there - that's why I built it...OK - at least I tried to do something useful :-)

Thanx, too! Are you going to update 4.3 pre-beta frequently?

Maybe you will carry on? I tried it on VirtualBox with Arch i686 2009.02 and it works better than kde 4.2 =>. Sometimes plasma is crashing but this is bug of qt4.5.
Archlinux: x86_64, Gnome 2.26.*
I am registered Linux user number 485935 since september, 2007.

It depends on how often will be those "stable" unstable packages provided by KDE team. I don't want to build from svn (therefor is kde4-svn repo here). But I will try to keep it up-to-date. Thanks Pierre's scripts it is much easier :-)
At this time I had to downgrade back to stable 4.2.0 because when I tried to run any Wine application, screen went black and I was not able to get back my desktop even when I restarted Plasma. And it's not caused only by Wine, sometimes it happens with no obvious reason. I'll try to find out why.

kdemultimedia package is corrupted! compiled it by my own.
another "problem": no nepomuk desktop search is available (nepomukserver binary and module in systemsettings)! did you know that? is this normal behaviour using 4.2.63 src?
but i must definitly say: kde4.3 (4.2.63) with qt 4.5 is more stable than 4.2 and qt 4.4! nice... only thing: no nepomuk
sorry for my bad english

Hi,
I have just updated the repo to 4.2.65 !! It is little bit faster and has some bugs fixed. Also compiled against stable Qt 4.5.
Nepomuk is working again.
I recommend not to use desktop effects as it breaks down Plasma.
I'll be off for a week since tomorrow and I probably won't have access to the internet so I'll can't reponse on your questions.

Hi,
I just updated the repo to 4.2.67. The big news in this build is, that oxygen-icons are now in separate package instead of kdebase-runtime. I also made update of exiv2 to version 0.18 so kdegraphics now contains working gwenview.

Just tried out your repo and it's working great so far! Thanks!

Hi,
the repo was updated to 4.2.68.svn945504.

I'm getting the following after trying to update twice:

Reuploaded (also kdesdk for i686 arch).

Thanks! That package now checks out fine, but when I upgraded, I got:
/usr/share/icons/oxygen/scalable/apps/accessories-dictionary.svgz exists in both 'oxygen-icons' and 'kdeplasma-addons'
kdeplasma-addons: /usr/share/icons/oxygen/scalable/apps/accessories-dictionary.svgz exists in filesystem
I just went ahead and did a -Suf to go ahead and install, but thought you might want to know.

Thanks for noticing.
I'll take a look on it later, fot now you can safely install it using the -f parameter, there are just some icons colliding.

Thank you for the packages. This version seems to be more stable than the previous.

Im thinking about installing you packages right now but Im still not sure about it. Is it worth trying the beta? What are the improvements of KDE 4.3 so far and is it stable enough for daily use as a replacement of the current KDE 4.2?
Offline
Well I use this "beta" since 4.2.63 every day and I never had any big problems with stability. Sometimes krunner crashes (but I met this on 4.2.1 too, so...). I have noticed mostly improvements in smaller features like Tray Notify, App launcher, since .67 the krunner has also some smart modifications....I recommend to try - you can alway revert to 4.2

Thanks for the info. I have installed it and it really 'feels' better. There is just one problem I got: everytime I logout plasma crashes and I get a popup error message on a black background screen. Is it because I tried to started from my old profile and there are some incompatibilities? Or do you also have those crashes? btw Im using 64bit version and have nvidia graphics card with latest repo driver.

The same here but its not big problem

Yes, I suffer from the plasma-desktop crash when ending the session too (x86_64, nvidia-beta). I also found some problems with kmix (I haven't found kmix at all :-) ). I'll take look on it later today and upload fixed packages ASAP.
Thanks for your feedback
