I installed Arch for the first time on a Dell 1420n laptop yesterday and I've been thrilled with it so far.
There's been just one rather annoying problem when I try to use the GUI... here's the scenario:
I start X with gnome, everything works fine.
I switch over to vc/1 (or whatever) and do some CLI stuff.
When I switch back to X (<Alt>F7), the mouse is frozen. Won't move or click anything.
I went back to /var/log/Xorg.0.log and found the interesting part:
(EE) AlpsPS/2 ALPS GlidePoint: Device has changed - disabling.
(this happens whenever I switch out and back)
Now I found out that I can do
modprobe -r psmouse
modprobe psmouse
and it works again, but it's really frustrating to have to do this everytime I switch out to a vc.
Are there any "permanent" solutions to this problem? (or ideas as to why X decides to randomly deactivate my mouse? )
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Anybody at all?
It seems that some people get this problem when they close the lid/suspend: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=62229
Someone posted a fix that would do the "modprobe -r psmouse; modprobe psmouse" thing when the system wakes up; does anyone know if that is possible to do whever I switch to X from a vc? That would solve my problem at least temporarily.
