No mouse or root log-in after 2.6.9 -Syu ((Arch CD used)

Unable to use USB mouse or PS/2 mouse after -Syu to kernel 2.6.9.

No root log-in provided into KDE.

PS/2 mouse allows select of console log-in .  Log-in as root with passwd OK.  Startx starts X.  At this time all mouse action terminates.

Am unable to proceed with corrective measures without mouse.

Understand that USB mouse can be re-enabled by modprobe.  The command line in root is required but is not enabled due to loss of mouse control.

Arch is now a dead duck.

I proceed herewith in Knoppix.

What can be done without mouse?

this is why i always say - install stock kernel on initial install, then customize your kernel so u know everything what is going on there...

Re: No mouse or root log-in after 2.6.9 -Syu ((Arch CD used)

Xentac;

Was aware of the module entry required for the USB mouse.  I was not aware that also affected the PS/2 mouse as well.  Neither is functioning in X nor can I obtain root in command line to enable the changes in module entry.

I do not have KDE root log-in nor did it respond to recommended change in kdmrc file to set the root log-in to...true ( performed some time ago).

My present predicament is no root control due to loss of all mice and consequently cannot fix the mouse problem, not having root priveleges.

What to do next?

u can to pass 'init=/bin/bash' to your kernel line on boot to gain root back. u can also boot using a live-cd and mount your partition.

Re: No mouse or root log-in after 2.6.9 -Syu ((Arch CD used)

Thanks much for the posts, gents.

I have entered all the required elements in modules and in kdmrc to correct the problems introduced by pacman -Syu (again)!

I utilized the arch install CD and chrooted to the files in order to install what was already useable before pacman upgrade.  (Shades of windows!!!).
