Mouse issues with 2.6.9 upgrade

Before someone posts the links to modprobe "*_hcd" please hear me out.  I had trouble w/ my usb mouse when I upgraded to 2.6.9.  Read the posting on the front page of arch which said that I need to modprobe either uhci or ohci_hcd.  uhci is the correct one because the mouse light blinks when I load the module.  Problem is, it doesn't start working right away.  if I leave the computer on for about 10-15 minutes, all of a sudden, the mouse will start working almost as if some kind period script has woken up and restarted the mouse.  Can someone please explain to me why this is happening and what I need to do to get the mouse working right away?
TIA.

Re: Mouse issues with 2.6.9 upgrade

i dont realy have a solution, but just something u can checkout in the meantime - is hotplug is running? if so - kill the mf... if not, i would try removing daemons and modules, maybe there is a conflict somewhere.
just my thoughts for the time being, so u wont be bored wink

Thank you.  I think you might me onto something.  I was reading another post in this section and there was talk about issues with coldplugging and the suggestion was to run /sbin/hotplug in /etc/rc.local.  ugly hack but I am willing to live w/ it I suppose.   roll

To enable coldplugging, add hotplug to you DAEMONS in rc.conf.

Thank you.  I never knew that hotplug had to be explicitly run.  always figured the kernel runs it when needed.  However, I did not know about  how to use it for coldplugging.

Re: Mouse issues with 2.6.9 upgrade

ok, I tried putting the hotplug script in my rc.conf.  aside from an error (which doesn't seem to have anything to do with the usb or the mouse, - didn't make a copy of it.  can do if anyone wants to see it), the mouse is still dead till about 10-15 minutes after the booting.  any ideas?
TIA
