[Solved] Konqueror scrolling broken

sad

Scrolling in Konqueror 4.2.1 as of today is broken. Using up and down keys only redraws the top and bottom 50 or so pixels, but the rest of the displayed page is not moved up and down anymore. Pagewise scrolling works OK.

kdebase 4.2.1-2

Re: [Solved] Konqueror scrolling broken

Strange. I have one of most "mis-configured" KDEs and this works nicely for me.
Do you use Qt4.5? I guess you do...
Check if you might have sharpen effect turned on in your desktop effects I know it's bad with scrolling on my KDE.

Whatever I do, I always end up with something horribly mis-configured.

Thans for you suggestions.

Indeed I use Qt4.5. Since I am not running the KDE desktop (running xmonad), I don't know whether this effect is switched on. Any hints where to find the sharpen effect? Could not find anything in .kde4/*.

Re: [Solved] Konqueror scrolling broken

I think it's in the System Settings, under Appearance or something like that.

System settings desktop effects all effects.
But I don't think it's causing problems as it's part of Kwin (the KDE windows manager) and if I'm correct Xmonad is another WM.
So I don't think it really has an effect. I think it matters only if you use Kwin and it's effects.

Maybe check you Konqueror settings. Or your windows management settings.
In Konqueror look at performance and web settings.
But I can't help you with windows manager.

But I am curious why do you even use Konqueror I'm a KDE user and I don't use it. mostly because Flash can be a bit of a pain sometimes working and sometimes not.

Yes, xmonad is another window manager. But I doubt it has anything to do with this konqueror problem, since it worked perfectly until some update a few days back. Unfortunately I could not find a way to figure out which packages had been updated in the last days (man pacman is silent about that).

Maybe check you Konqueror settings. Or your windows management settings.

Again, I doubt that any settings are to blame, because until that ominous update everything worked like a charm.

But I am curious why do you even use Konqueror I'm a KDE user and I don't use it. mostly because Flash can be a bit of a pain sometimes working and sometimes not.

The flash problems are annoying, but other than that Konqueror is the least annoying browser I know of. It is configurable without headaches (it has MENUES for easy configuration), the design is more pleasant than Firefox, and it does not send information about my browsing habits to Google or any other companies.

Re: [Solved] Konqueror scrolling broken

I think this could help:

sudo nano /var/log/pacman.log

Mind that if you had your Arch for a long time it can be a long list.
I'm still a bit of a noob, so if you know a similar command to head but to show only latest logs do that instead.

O, should have thought of that.

After downgrading kdebase-* and kdelibs to 4.2.1-1 everything worked as before. Then upgrading package by package to the newest versions did not re-introduce the weird scrolling behavior (restarting the window manager every time).

So the weird scrolling behavior is gone, but I cannot say what caused it.

Thanks for the help.
