I have tulip in /etc/modprobe.conf, and lsmod shows that it's loaded.
But at boot network fails. If I type "/etc/rc.d/network start", the [BUSY] eventually changes to [FAIL] and there's no error message. In /var/log/errors.log it says:
archlinux dhcpcd[1974]: timed out waiting for a valid DHCP server response
I'm on a home network using DHCP. I have eth0="dhcp" in /etc/rc.conf
This has never happened to me before with VirtualPC. Windows and other Linux distros have all worked... what's going on?

is the virtual nic actually activated?
I know in vmware you can activate/deactivate a nic.
