Howdy

I just installed Arch for the first time and I am loving it. I wanted to introduce myself to everyone here and say hi. smile

I am a geeky college student majoring in East Asian Studies and International Relations. Computers and Graphic Design are my hobbies. (though they are pretty major aspects of my life for a "hobby")

I initially installed Arch linux on advice from the linux forums: http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/instal … -i-do.html

I have to admit, I am really loving it so far. pacman and aur is wonderful. and I haven't had a single crash or issue besides setting up sound. Everything is very fast and stable. I will definently recomment this to my friends.

Re: Howdy

Hey, welcome.

So, graphic design, eh? I've been banging my head against the wall the whole evening because I'm completely unable to do anything visually pleasing and I'm trying to make a webpage for fun. Actually putting stuff together is easy, but how can you ever design something that looks nice? Anything that requires creativity, I can't do.

Re: Howdy

Arch is a pestilence. Once you've experienced the raw power of pacman and ABS, you can't live with other package managers. The massive emotional blast you get from reading any .config file on arch, and feeling the untainted power of the possibilities of the configuration are just overwhelming. The fact that you can actually get up to date packages is astounding to anyone who is used to a fixed release cycle, and the fact that arch makes it work is even better. In a talk by Linus Torvals, here: http://www.linuxjournal.com/content/origins-linux-video, he was saying that there is the dynamic system of project management only works if you have vision, and that is what i see in the archlinux team and community. So, in the end, good for you, and archlinux for the win.

Consistency is not a virtue.
