So i've been installing Arch on an Aspire One with a HDD. Everything seems to be working out one way or another, except wireless.
I've followed the instructions on the wiki, everything seems to going fine, i run dhcpcd, and this gets spit out:
wlan0: broadcasting for a lease
wlan0: offered 192.168.16.3 from 192.168.16.1
wlan0: acknowledged 192.168.16.3 from 192.168.16.1
wlan0: checking 192.168.16.3 is available on attached networks
wlan0: ignoring offer of 192.1.6 from 192.168.1.1
wlan0: leased 192.168.16.3 for 3600 seconds
I then ping google.com and i get "unknown host".
I'm sure i'm missing a step, but can't seem to find my answer anywhere.

what does it 'spit out' when you issue the command 'cat /etc/resolve.conf' ?
When everything's coming your way, you're in the wrong lane I say.

auch! typo there indeed ...
terribly sorry

Apaulo: Did you set up your /etc/hosts correctly?

I assume so, because i managed to get my wired internet going, but i'll check everything again later and run those cammands, i'm not at my laptop right now.

Well, now my wired doesn't work either. When i first installed, it wasn't working, so i switch 6169 to 6101 like the Aspire One wiki suggested, and even tho when i booted up i would get a "FATAL: Module 8101 not found", it managed to work. As of late last night this changed, and using either module gives me no internet
As far as my /etc/hosts, it looks like this:
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost AspireOne
...and rc.conf looks like this:
Hostname="AspireOne"
gateway='default gw 192.168.0.1"
ROUTES=(!gateway)
cat /etc/resolv.conf gives me this:
# Generated by dhcpcd from eth0
# /etc/resolv.conf.head can replace this line
nameserver 192.168.16.1
# /etc/resolv.conf.head can replace this line
Edit: i just checked out my routers log and here are the more recent lines:
[Admin login] from source 192.168.1.3, Monday, Mar 23,2009 12:19:58
[DOS attack: UDP Port Scan] attack packets in last 20 sec from ip [192.168.16.1], Monday, Mar 23,2009 12:12:02
[DOS attack: UDP Port Scan] attack packets in last 20 sec from ip [192.168.16.1], Monday, Mar 23,2009 10:58:58
[DHCP IP: (192.168.1.3)] to MAC address 00:18:F3:94:94:60, Monday, Mar 23,2009 10:55:06
DOS attack? I'm confused.
Anyways if it matters it's a netgear router, one Windows pc is connected, plus another windows laptop that connects from time to time.

Ok, so i changed default gw in rc.conf from 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.1.1, to see what that would do, and i got a little farther connecting my wifi.
ifconfig wlan0 gives me this:
Link encap: Ethernet HWaddr 00:24:2B:21:40:FA
inet addr:192.168.1.6 Bcast:192:168.1.255 Mask: 255.255.255.0
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:110 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets95 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
RX bytes:12211 (11.9 Kb) TX bytes:9078 (8.8 Kb)
My router sees me now, when i ping google i get this:
PING www.1.google.com (74.125.19.103) 56(84) bytes of data.
From 192.168.16.2 icmp_seq=1 Destination Host Unreachable
From 192.168.16.2 icmp_seq=2 Destination Host Unreachable
From 192.168.16.2 icmp_seq=3 Destination Host Unreachable
-- www.1.google.com ping statistics ---
3 packets transmitted, 0 received, +3 errors, 100% packet loss, time 1999ms, pipe 3
Haven't tried wired again, but i'm pretty sure i've got some setting screwed up, i'm gunna wait and see what you guys have to say.
Edit: Ok, browsing the wiki i thought i'd give specifing the nameservers myself a try and... my wifi worked... once. I shutdown the computer, booted it up, and gave it another shot, this time with negative results. I noticed when it worked it gave me an IP address of 192.168.1.x, and all the other times it was 192.168.15.x or some other crap.
I knew something had to be wrong, because all my other computers get assigned IPs like 192.168.1.x. I can't figure out why the hell it's not working, but when i run 'dhcpcd wlan0' i get this:
wlan0: dhcpcd 4.0.12 starting
wlan0: broadcasting for a lease
wlan0: offered 192.168.15.4 from 192.168.15.1
wlan0: ignoring offer of 192.168.1.5 from 192.168.1.1
wlan0: acknowledged 192.168.15.4 from 192.168.15.1
wlan0: checking 192.168.15.4 is available on attached networks
wlan0: leased 192.168.15.4 for 3600 seconds
Why is it ignoring 192.168.1.1! Acknowledge it! who the hell is 192.168.15.1!? Ahhhh!

Do you have any other DHCP server running on your network? What happens if you try to assign your IP manually?
Edit: Just realized, this may occur if someone else is connecting to your network somehow. How secure/wide is it?
