What is the difference be tween Unix and Linux? From what i understand Linux is very "Unix Like" and is free and that unix is not free.(i think?) I her the BSD is more like unix that linux. Well what is UNix exactly? Is it still being developed? I never hear about the next version of unix coming out. Ive heard of HP-UX and solaris which is supposed to be very unix-like and OSX another unix based operating system/ But what is just plain unix? Where do you even buy it?

Not to be rude, but I think the fact that you see it enough to be fucking sick of it should show that maybe you do too much asking and not enough searching.

Also... stating that a perfectly reasonable reply makes you fucking sick is not likely to invite many more perfectly reasonable replies. Quite the contrary, i expect...

Not really what you asked for but I think you might find it interesting anyway: BSD for Linux users

1. define "unix": is it (open)solaris, *bsd or something different (hp-ux, plan 9, minix)
2. most unices have got different userland programs than linux (well... definatly not most of programs), like e.g. coreutils, and packages intallation differs from those in linux (well... on the other hand rpm5 is universal, also tar.gz are quite universal)
of course, depends from which unix you are talking about differences can be bigger- but you would have to specify both linux distro and unix version.
