I've just upgraded the kernel and sound stopped working.
lspci output:
00:04.0 Multimedia audio controller: nVidia Corporation CK804 AC'97 Audio Controller (rev a2)
I switched to OSS and it works fine, but with some glitches.
¿Is someone having the same problem?

I have exactly the same sound device as you,
bash-3.2# lspci | grep audio
00:04.0 Multimedia audio controller: nVidia Corporation CK804 AC'97 Audio Controller (rev a2)
and though my alsa works, it is very very very flakey.

Same here, switching to oss made my system freeze 80% less than it used to with alsa but still does not fix this issue completely.
Gnome -> Openbox -> Awesome -> XMonad -> dwm .

Any idea of what we can do? Would it be useful to notify someone? Maybe as a bug?

Find out exactly what two versions of the kernel26 package the problem occurs between. Then use Arch's site to make sure nothing besides the upstream kernel source changed - see if Arch started using a new patch, or stopped using an old one, etc.

With kernel update, alsa is now working.

does alsa still have lower soundquality than oss? anyone using snd-hda-intel module and STAC92xx(cat /proc/asound/card?/pcm?p/info) still seeing this?
