Re: [Solved] Microphone Troubles

I guess you have tried this already but, did you try cycling through all the input sources and tried adjusting the mic boost and all capture volumes?
You have: Simple mixer control 'Capture',0 and Simple mixer control 'Capture',1 and Simple mixer control 'Mic Boost',0. Try changing these and maybe have audacity (or other program) displaying the recording on the background so you can see what is going on.

Re: [Solved] Microphone Troubles

Ok then .... does your pc have an HDAudio codec? Lately it seems most problems related with alsa come from the combination alsa + hdaudio codec, if this is the case the only possible solution I can think of is trying to load the module and tell it to use another laptop model, if that works then just add the "fix" to modprobe.conf.
The other option is to give OSS a try if that doesn't cause problems for any of the programs you use.
Check this if you have an hdaudio codec as most probably what you need is explained there smile

Re: [Solved] Microphone Troubles

You have probably allready tried this, but it you enter alsamixer and then press TAB you will come to the capture screen. Make sure that you press space so it says "L  R" "and "CAPTUR" on both mic and mic boost. When I first had mic problems it took me quite a while before I noticed that I had forgotten thr "L R" thing on mic boost.

Re: [Solved] Microphone Troubles

my mic didn't work either. im using the snd-hda-intel module. the only thing that worked was to copy, i think, /usr/share/alsa/cards/HDA-Intel.conf to ~/.asoundrc .

the "use different options with kernel module" method, atleast when i checked it out, didn't work for everybody.

test your setup with this:

arecord -v -Dhw:0,0 -f cd test.wav
(Control-C to stop recording)

and then
aplay test.wav

aplay didn't work here when i last tested it, and only xmms worked, but now it's the opposite, so YMMV.

Re: [Solved] Microphone Troubles

Everything is on max! However, I just figured it out. on capture, the two options on the very right weren't set to Front Mic tongue
