I have a new appreciation

I have a new appreciation for those that actually create Linux distributions.  I am so used to using already created distributions that have every thing set up just so.  I wanted to try out different desktops since arch linux makes this so easy.  I tried e17 and found it nothing like all the distributions that are based on this.  I then tried openbox which looked pretty cool and thought I would use it by itself and realize how much work it takes to make it look like any thing.  I started it up and just have a blank desktop and no icons or any thing.  I do not mind using KDE as I like it but was getting so many crashes with plasma that I figured I would go with a lighter desktop.  I now know how much work it takes to set all these up.  I have used lxde in the past as well but never really liked it.  I guess I will just have to take the time to make things look the way I want them to look.  I always thought all versions were the same that they just made theirs a little bit different.  I appreciate having the right to do this my way but kind of like the old way as well.  It is hard when you are used to things a certain way and then have to do this for yourself but I like the challenge.

Once you've done it 10-15 times it will take you no time at all. wink

And of course it is a good idea to save/backup dot files.

Welcome to Arch Linux.

Configuring your computer environment from the scratch can be so much fun. That's what we all like about Arch wink
