Kernel panic - not synching:VFS:Unable to mount root fs on unknown

Hi guys

I skipped from ubuntu to arch to better understand the way how linux works

I made yesterday an upgrade of pacman repos and afterward and upgrade all Archlinux installation, also i think the kernel was included.

After that Im getting an error message

Kernel panic - not synching:VFS:Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)

Im using Grub 0.97

I assume I have some bad option in grub loader, because Im able to start without problems with Archlinux-fallback

Re: Kernel panic - not synching:VFS:Unable to mount root fs on unknown

It's your kernel. Try downloading a different copy of Arch. Apparently, it doesn't have support for your block device.

Well, the fallback image does work, so you just need to make sure you have the right hooks specified on your mkinitcpio.conf, and then rebuild it:

@aprz

Well didnt change any hardware so I dont see why the kernel shouldn't support my block device

BTW Im running Archlinux in VMware Workstation 6.5 to test Arch before I put it sharp on my pc big_smile

@Odysseus

Wow I just love that awesome arch linux wiki, Respect cool

Gonna tryout

Thank you both for support
