In the beginners guide wiki, it mentions disabling ipv6 in the modules section of rc.conf. In ubuntuforums i have seen a list of net-pf numbers that are safe to disable for the vast majority of users. It was a while ago, but it was something to do with security and speed/minimilisation. I used to disable 3, 4, 5, and 10 (ipv6). Is there actually any point to this, and if so, is there a list of the numbers and what each one represents?

This webpage will tell you what each one represents:

Thanks lpb331, but i think that page is out of date. I have seen net-pf's with numbers in the 30's. See http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=525121

Yeah, it's out of date. But from what they talked about, a look at the file /usr/src/linux-2.6.28-ARCH/include/linux/socket.h (if you're using a different kernel replace the linux-2.6.28-ARCH with the correct kernel) gives (I hope) an updated list of them. It starts around line 160.
