I know that there are problems with rc15 (http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/12089) but i need fakeraid level 10.
my plan is to dual boot with vista x64 on a fakeraid 10 (4x500GB). dmraid 1.0.0rc14-2 does not support level 10 on the intel chipset but rc15 does.
i know the pros and cons of fake- vs. softraid, i was using softraid on my older pc for years.
How do i get dmraid-rc15 during the arch installation (it is not in testing!)?

Build the package, boot the install CD, install the package into the live environment, run /arch/setup.
This is general advice related to your package query, btw - I know nothing about any flavour of raid.

ok thank you. but i am not used to this procedure.
Build the package - how do i do this without another linux installation available?
install the package into the live environment - how do i install a self build package that resides on a usb stick?

If this is your first install, you don't wanna go with Arch. Try something else. We're not gonna hold your hand and walk you through basic steps, sorry. That's not what this distro is meant for.
If you do not know how to mount devices etc., try something easier than Arch first.

wow, have i hurt your feelings or did i piss you off some other way.
arch is not my first distro, i am able to read the wiki and fix problems myself and yes, i can even mount a device.
but maybe you are right and building a package not included in in the package databases from source and exchanging this package with a preinstalled one is a basic step in Arch and i am not 1337 enoug for Arch and should not annoy this community with my questions.

Ok, i managed to install rc15 following this ABS guide and editing the PKGBUILD file. I pointed the source to http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/pool/ma … rig.tar.gz and was able to build the package and install it through pacman.
Unfortunately i need to apply some patches to the source because dmraid does not see any raid disks - a known bug - but i lists support for my raid level. I am not sure how to patch the source, yet. I am sure that given enough time i am going to figure it out on my own, it would be still great if someone could give me a hint to save me some time.

A hint: look for some existing PKGBUILDs that include patches, and do the same or similar in yours. PKGBUILDs for all official Arch packages are available in our SVN repo, or alternatively by installing and using the abs package from the extra repo.
And a comment: you were able to work out what to do about getting the package installed, so it seems you are "1337 enoug for Arch" after all - congratulations! B's post was not meant as any kind of insult - rather, it was a very brief and timely reminder that Arch is intended for Linux users who have reached a certain level of experience and knowledge, something that is increasingly overlooked around here IMO.
