[Solved] No /dev/disk/by-id for new devices

Is /dev/disk/by-* populated only on boot time? I plugged in some USB storage devices and they aren't showing up there (they are in /dev/sdx though)

Is there a command I can use to get all the symlinks I need?

Re: [Solved] No /dev/disk/by-id for new devices

I just plugged in a usb thumbdrive to test this and I got a /dev/disk/by-uuid for it. Also happens when you create a new partition on a hard drive etc. Use this...

ls -lF /dev/disk/by-uuid/

Re: [Solved] No /dev/disk/by-id for new devices

I worried that, if udev (?) is supposed to pick them up anytime, it may not work at all anymore, so I rebooted. It works now, even replugging... must have been some odd glitch.

I noticed when I replugged other USB devices disconnected, so it may be because the USB hub was overloaded. I have some redecorating to do, because that sounds pretty dangerous.
