radeon 9600 help please

Hello

I have followed the wiki how-to for installing fglrx for use with with my radeon 9600.
However glxinfo reports: Direct Rendering: No

Here is the the part of dmesg that shows the error:

Fire GL built-in AGP-support
Based on agpgart interface v0.99 (c) Jeff Hartmann
agpgart: Maximum main memory to use for agp memory: 439M
agpgart: Detected nVidia nForce2 chipset
agpgart: Bridge device is in AGP v1/v2 mode
agpgart: AGP aperture is 256M @ 0xb0000000
Power management callback for AGP chipset installed
[fglrx] AGP detected, AgpState = 0x00000000 (hardware caps of chipset)
[fglrx:firegl_unlock] *ERROR* Process 696 using kernel context 0
[root@shmonkey /]#

I don't know how to get past this, any idea's would be greatly appreciated.

For the love of God why didn't I buy Nvidia  :?

Re: radeon 9600 help please

I aalso have a 9600SE and I cannot access direct rendering. Whenever I try to use opengl xorg freezes. dmesg gives an MTRR error (overlaping or something similar). If tried external and internal agpgart (recompiling the kernel to disable it), but no 3d accel avaible. I tried to install 3 diferent versions of the drivers, including the last ones.

My system also freezes if i use de radeon module and ati driver in xorg.

I experience exactly the same behaivour with xfree86.

I have DRI working. I'm using a 9200SE, xorg and the kernel radeon driver quite happily. But I had to disable AGPFastWrite in /etc/X11/xorg.cong (comment it out or change it to "Off"), I get lockups if I enable it .

I get much the same framerate in glxgears as I do if I boot "Yoper Linux" where I'm using Xfree86 and fglrx.

Re: radeon 9600 help please

I disabled AGPFastWrite and it keeps crashing, but, something strange, dmesg messages seem to be ok  sad

Here's dmesg answer:

Isn't dmesg showing you're using "fglrx"?

I'm using "radeon" with xorg, here is the relevant section from my xorg.conf:

Section "Device"
   Identifier "rad"
   VendorName "ATI"
Driver "radeon" # <<<<<-------- not "fglrx"
   VideoRam 131072
   Option "DPMS"
   Option "AGPMode" "4"
# Option "AGPFastWrite" "On" <<<<-------- locks me up, so comment out
   Option "EnablePageFlip" "On"
EndSection

Here's all I get from dmesg:

[drm] Initialized radeon 1.11.0 20020828 on minor 0: ATI Technologies Inc RV280 [Radeon 9200 SE]
agpgart: Found an AGP 2.0 compliant device at 0000:00:00.0.
agpgart: Putting AGP V2 device at 0000:00:00.0 into 4x mode
agpgart: Putting AGP V2 device at 0000:01:00.0 into 4x mode
[drm] Loading R200 Microcode

Here is part of my var/log/messages:

(II) RADEON(0): [drm] installed DRM signal handler
(II) RADEON(0): [DRI] installation complete
(II) RADEON(0): [drm] Added 32 65536 byte vertex/indirect buffers
(II) RADEON(0): [drm] Mapped 32 vertex/indirect buffers

(II) RADEON(0): [drm] Initialized kernel GART heap manager, 5111808

Re: radeon 9600 help please

oh...

(WW) RADEON(0): Direct rendering not yet supported on Radeon 9500 and newer cards

so just wait for better ati drivers or radeon 9600 support on xorg
