When shutting down arch, as normal, System > Shutdown, it then shows the CLI and the login prompt:
mikeyd@DEATH_STAR: login
It used to sit there for 5 seconds then shutdown as usual, now it takes more than 20 seconds, if at all, is something holding up the shutdown process. Any help would be amazing.
Thank you
If you need any output, let me know

my first guess would be something like a program/daemon is still running/timing out.
maybe u can tell us the programs u run like gnome/kde or show us 'ps -e' right before u shutdown again?

yes, as i suspected u have close to double the processes running vs. mine.(not that thats a bad thing)
But anything gnome related has always seemed to run slow, i wouldnt be too worried about shutdown speed.
I never used gnome that much, (about 1 month) so I have no clue what exact process is slowing down, my guess is metacity.

What desktop environment do you suggest then? And if you can steps for removing the DE I have and reinstalling the new one?
Thank you,
I only installed what programs I needed, so this MUST be a gnome thing with the amount of processes, still it didnt do this initially hmmmm

ive had issues shutting down when running gdm as a daemon, search the wiki for setting it to run under runlevel 5 and everything got fixed for me.
