As in the news report: http://www.archlinux.org/news/440/ I thought I wasn't able to run a up-to-date Archlinux in the near future...
but what I didn't knew before: Core2Duo is a x86_64 processor, shame on me
I never looked for it though, no one ever tould me it was either.
I'm running a nice i686 Archlinux install on my laptop for a couple of months and would like to turn it into a x86_64 installation.
Is this possible without a reinstall? and where should I start looking for information?

You know that you don't really have to switch to x86_64, yes? Well anyway, I guess it can be useful if you really want it, so here's some info :

No.
Have a look at http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Arch64_FAQ for the general FAQ about Arch64 and at http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=64485 for a migration method (haven't tested it).
Be sure to read the FAQ, there are some things you need to know about Arch64. Especially if you use proprietary apps compiled only for i686 or things like Wine.
Good luck

Yeah, you do realise what day it is?

I bet it's yesterday.
And I know that I don't really have to switch, but If I have the option, why not? Just took a closer look at Arch64 pros and cons, it's worth a try I gues. I only need skype from the apps that aren't 64 bit. I'll be doing a reinstall without erasing my home partition and back up the most important from /etc and /srv. Should be the most efficient without to much thinking.

that should work, that is what i am doing tonight. 64bit is the future development so why dont the full advantage of it (jelly himselft has 2 pc's that need to be upgraded to arch64 )
For skype , you can use a chroot or the bin32-skype from aur.
