I couldn't get a correct resolution for my monitor using xorg.conf, but xrandr works great.
My question is:
How can I make these xrandr settings apply to all users on the computer (aside from editing xorg.conf)?
The only command I need to add is:
xrandr --output VGA-0 --mode 1280x1024
Thanks,
Chris

I ended up putting the xrandr command in the /etc/gdm/PostLogin/Default script (copy of Default.sample) which is handily executed after anyone logs in.
I'm sure there should be a more elegant solution, though.

Smart.
I've come to really appreciate xrandr. My GDM screen still looks screwed up, but that's acceptable.
