Is arch 64 worth installing with only 1 gig of ram?
And if i were to install 64bit arch, wine would work as well as it does in 32bit arch right?

Do you rip DVDs? Encode video? Render 3D animations? Do scientific calculations or statistical analysis? Do you expect to get more than 4 GB of RAM?

If you answered "yes" to any of those questions, install 64-bit. Otherwise, go 32.

Can address the wine question. I haven't seen wine in 10 years or so.

Most of my computers have 1gb of ram, and i run arch64 on all of the ones that support it. I havnt yet found myself needing more then 2gb on any of mysystems, but planning ahead for 4gb never hurts.

Wine runs exactly as it does in 32-bit arch. Its a little harder to setup because you'll need to install all the 32bit libraries first most importantly the one for your video card. But once you have it setup it works just as you'd expect.

rito25, I believe they are in AUR, Also, wine is just as easy to install as it is in i686. Just install the bin32-wine from AUR and it will pull in all the 32-bit libs that is required.

skype needs to be also the bin32-skype, but still works. catalyst is on AUR, and works fine here Arch 64.

I have 1GB RAM and run Arch64. I do compile stuff from AUR, do some light number-crunching, have ripped one or two DVD's and have never wanted more RAM. (I use 3GB swap just in case)

I would always go 64 bit on hardware that can support it. Don't live in the past! Move toward the future! Hoorah!

I suppose the point is that there's basically no reason not to go x64. It may not offer much of an improvement with your current setup, but it won't bring any direkt drawbacks either. The only con I can think of is probably the lack of an obscure driver or similar.

Thanks! I was playing to redo my linux set up so that linux has a 320 gb hard drive to play on and windows will only have a 40 gb to play on.
Also super stupid question but XFS works in arch64 right?
