Is this possible? (Has it been discussed before? It's hard to search for...)

When do you experience content loss? I tested it a bit with urxvt and I don't experience content loss with "vi", "ls /usr/bin" etc - I think I used to on an earlier install.

I know that urxvt/bash doesn't lose content.
urxvtc / wmii / zsh / configs / onebluecat.net

Xfce Terminal/bash also doesn't lose content by resizing.

bash, tcsh, zsh, and sh all do not lose content on resize (tested in rxvt)

Plain urxvt works indeed. I just tested with ls /usr/bin.
I tested it in aterm/xterm and it didn't work (but that is fine), but what I always use is urxvt running tmux which doesn't work either.
Do I need to tell tmux about some terminal capabilities?

Does it work in screen?

I can't get it to work in urxvt-tabbed. I use the non-gtk one and urxvtc. Does it work for someone with urxvt-tabbed?

OK I'm sorry for posting four times in a row, but now it DOES work in urxvt-tabbed and all I did was restart all instances. Maybe I did something to the window earlier that caused it to lose the ability?
Anyway, I am starting to like urxvt-tabbed and will stick with it.
