My onboard sound doesn't seem to be being detected (Nvidia ALC883).
Alsaconf gives no problems. Maybe a config file but I don't know which to post that might help.

I was working on that myself recently..
u have to make sure the kernel has the correct modules loaded
then make sure u unmute and adjust volumes via alsamixer(*)
alsactl store (stores the volume settings)
echo "alsactl restore" >> /etc/rc.conf (restores volume settings)
make sure the user is added to the audio group
*-u might have to run alsaconf before(if it still doesnt work)

I'm also having issues with this. alsamixer only shows 3 channels, Master, PCM, and Digital. Alsaconf didn't change anything. I used to have at least 10+ channels, headphone/speaker switches, and a ton of other stuff, but it just disappeared from my mixer after this update.
I'm using snd_hda_intel for the Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03) chipset. The odd thing about all this is, that if I have gnome-terminal open, and I hold down backspace, I can hear sound, but otherwise, I don't hear anything (from speakers or headphones).
