Arch64 Audio?

Arch64 Audio?

Hi all, this is my first post on these forums as you can see. I have just recently installed Archlinux x86_64 on my pc:
AMD 5200+ Dual Core 2.7GHZ
2GB ddr2 800MHZ
Asus m2v-mx motherboard
nVidia 8600GT 512mb

Here is the problem:
There is no audio/sound controller detected/working.

Things I have tried:
Not too many, because I don't know the names of all the Arch Linux packages.
I have tried ALSA and also have spent about half an hour googling with no decent result that has anything to do with what I am trying. I also visited the ASUS website to see if there were any downloads for the audio driver, but only found manuals for the linux.

Please help me with this.

Re: Arch64 Audio?

I have always used the ALSAwiki article to setup ALSA and it has never let me down. Just check at each step that everything is as it should be and report back when you have difficulties. Don't miss the adding yourself to the audio group and the unmuting of the sound card.

Re: Arch64 Audio?

At which step in the wiki article did you have problems? You need to supply more information. smile

Re: Arch64 Audio?

That looks similar to mine. I'm on a ASUS M2N.

$ amixer scontrols
Simple mixer control 'Line in',0
Simple mixer control 'Mic',0
Simple mixer control 'Phone',0
Simple mixer control 'IEC958',0
Simple mixer control 'IEC958 Center/LFE',0
Simple mixer control 'IEC958 Front',0
Simple mixer control 'IEC958 Rear',0
Simple mixer control 'IEC958 Unknown',0
Simple mixer control 'Aux',0
Simple mixer control 'Analog Center/LFE',0

Simple mixer control 'Analog Rear',0
Simple mixer control 'Analog Side',0
Simple mixer control 'Analog Source',0
Simple mixer control 'CAPTURE feedback',0
Simple mixer control 'Digital Source',0
Simple mixer control 'Shared Mic/Line in',0

Can you run alsamixer and double check the  volume and mute setings. From memory I had to play around there until I worked out which items I needed to unmute. Maybe check your speakers are in the right socket? smile

Re: Arch64 Audio?

oh, lol I just noticed that even though the volume is max I needed to press "M" to unmute it. it works now.

Thanks.

Except there seems to be a hissing static sound all the time.

Re: Arch64 Audio?

No probs. Have fun with Arch. It's a great distro. I'm on x86_64 myself.

With regards the hissing sound turn down and mute any inputs you are not using, mic, line in, etc.
