After the installation of the latest release 2009.02 of Arch along with Gnome DE, the numlockx package seems not to work. More precisely, when I restart X and enter my credentials, the numlock's led remains off. Any suggestions?

Am I the only person who deals with this problem? I know, it's not big deal, but it's a little bit annoying and I have no idea why this is happening..

For numlockx to work you must put it in your .xinitrc. There is no automatic install for this.
If you want your numlock be on at the login screen (for example if you are not using autologin feature) numlockx should be executed by the main xinitrc script (look for it in /etc/X11 subdirectories)

Gnome can now remember numlock states between sessions, no need for numlockx. Check the following key via System Tools -> Configuration Editor:
/desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/remember_numlock_state

Hrm, I have that enabled (it was actually the default) but it doesn't remember to turn on numlock.

It's enabled for me as well, but numlock is always off for me too.

Vote for this bug here --> http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/13571 in order Arch's developing team to check it out. This annoying error forces me to switch from GNOME to KDE!

It's already enabled! Any other ideas?

I believe it happens to me, too, but it's weird that when typing my whole X restarts, or something x.x

Filing a bug report in the GNOME bugtracker instead, if there isnt one already might be better.

Ok ok... all along I thought it was working here.
There is this GConf key
/desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/host-<hostname>/0/numlock_on
that gnome-settings-daemon uses to set the numlock state between sessions if the "remember_numlock_state" key is checked.
It is supposed to store the current state of the numlock key. Setting this to true/false will toggle the numlock key state, and vice versa... meaning, pressing the actual numlock key will alter this GConf key as well. Right now, the latter does not work, because of the current xkb not alerting gnome-settings-daemon when the numlock key is pressed.
Upgrading to xorg-1.6.0-1 in testing fixed the problem here.

I don't have that GConf key. Odd?

Has anyone come to a solution?

@mrunion: That key, I believe, is created and used by gnome-settings-daemon. To test, I created a new user and the key was only created on the 2nd login, after gnome-settings-daemon did it's first save.
@gpan: Did you tried upgrading to xorg 1.6.0?

yeap! Unfortunately, I see no difference!

Hmm... upgrading to xorg in testing solved the numlock problems on both my pc at home and at work. Yours might be a different case.
How about this GConf key? do you have it?
/desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/host-<hostname>/0/numlock_on
And one more thing, numlockx might interfere with gnome-settings-daemon, so it should be removed.

It's turned to on.

There's no gnome-settings line within the daemons' list.

Edit: I thought I had the testing repository enabled, but I was wrong. I upgraded xorg to its latest version and the numlock finally turned on. Thanks a lot!;)
