I made an stage3-archlinux archiv for installing archlinux (including sudo and yaourt)

is anyone interestet in this archiv?

I made an stage3 archiv like the same thing is in gentoo

an system in which are base and base-devel installed, extended by some small tools like yaourt

and put all the stuff together in an .tar.bz2 archiv for this who want to install Archlinux easy by hand without the typical Archlinux setup

What is the benefit according to you? For Gentoo it's a time-saver, since you don't have to compile all that stuff anymore. But Arch is binary, so all there's to it is pulling the packages in with pacman.

Furthermore, a monolithic tarball defeats the reasonably small and modular setup you get with a core install - even more with an FTP install. Since the only thing that matters is download speed, the advantage always goes to the FTP (or core) install that pulls in what you want/need.

I agree with the others.

+ with our next generation installer you can get the same result by running the automatic procedure with a sample config for a base install.

The benefit is that this archive can stay on your harddisk and you dont have to reinstall via ftp or an old install cd, you can just re-extract the base system and have some small things to update

I will tentatively agree with Vamp here... I like stageX installs Very KISS. It might work well with the new Arch install CD release schedules... build a new stage set every time there's a bunch of major updates, update the install CD only if necessary... eh, whatever

Yeah well.. sometimes I think we could make an arch installation even faster by delivering a base image on the iso ("stage 3" or whatever), copying it to disk and then customizing a bit (remove or add some packages the user wants, update configs etc). It could make an arch install even faster then it is now, but you loose some transparancy so I rather stick with our current approach. maybe the community *cough*xyne reading this?*cough* could come up with something like this
