I'm new to arch, just installed arch 2 weeks ago, and I gotta say, this is the best distro I've ever tried,

What's up Archophiles.

I'm pretty new here, and this is my first real post. I've been lurking in the support and offtopic archlinux channels for a few weeks here, and I gotta say this is by far one of the most interesting Linux distro communities I've ever experienced. Hopefully I'll be able to contribute something back to the community in the coming...given intervals of time.

Hi everybody,

I have just installed ArchLinux for the first time, and here I am with my new configured xorg & icewm (though the mouse touchpad doesn't work properly yet...)

I chose ArchLinux for its simplicity. I was sick of big distros and big desktop managers with tons of hidden configurations. I like it also because in this way I learn more from Unix/Linux.

I come from Madrid, Spain, and I am currently in Berlin learning German. More ArchLinux users in Berlin?

Greetings and salutations! I just installed Arch the other day and am blown away by it. I had been using Kubuntu with KDE 4.2 for about 4 months and was getting sick of its slow and sluggish performace. Things have changed drastically with Arch. I now have the performance I was wanting 4 months ago when I built this machine.

Good day!
I have been a GNU/Linux user for a while. Starting with Suse 9.1 several years ago. Then switch to Ubuntu and had been using for a while. I still have couple of servers running under Debian and Ubuntu.
I noticed Archlinux since last year. Comments from people in different forums made me decide to have a go. So I back up my data and do a clean install into my day to day computer. Installed a few time to play around the options. Learn a lots even I used Linux for a while. I would highly recommend my friend of it.

I have used ubuntu for over a year and a half now and while I still think its great for the "normal" computer user, I am looking to really learn more about linux and my friend says arch linux is a good way to learn all about the ins and outs of linux. So here I am, and I hope to get to know some of you in the future.

Hi there,

I'm Stefan from Berlin/Germany also known as seiichiro0185 on the Internet. I'm a linux user since almost 10 years now going over various distros from Suse over Redhat, Mandrake, Debian and Gentoo to finally Arch. I used Gentoo for the last few years but finally came to the point where the compiling of every single bit and the time this takes is getting to much of a hassle. So I looked for a distro that is small and lightweight and offers the flexibility I want. From what I tried it seems Arch is the perfect fit for me. I tried it in Virtualbox and was really impressed with the simplicity, speed and flexibility. So I'm now going for the real thing, that is converting my Laptop from Gentoo to Arch (currently waiting for the last data to be written to the external HDD). So I hope to have a good time in the Arch Community and looking forward to many happy years as an Arch user ^_^

Hi,

Henrik from Sweden here. I've tried to go full time GNU/Linux quite a few times in the last ten years. Last summer I put Ubuntu on my laptop and finally stuck with Linux. Since March, there's only Arch, and it feels right at home. My MacBook at work was also liberated a few days back. Arch has really helped to bring fun back to geeky, which helps in my job as an AI developer / project manager.

I hope to be able to give something back to this excellent community.

Hi,

My name is Peter, I live in Budapest, Hungary. I work as a software engineer mainly in the field of identity management and system management. I have a wife and a half year old daughter. I met Linux in 1996. Since that I used it here and there but I am not an expert of Linux. I used Debian for years and even tried LFS. This year I tried Gentoo but I had many problems with it so I switched to Arc. Nowdays I built a small Arch desktop environment on a pendrive so I can boot it on corporate computers without installing anything "unwanted" on my laptop.

I am happy to join the Happy Archers Community

I love this distro, plain and simple.

Switched from ubuntu. I can actually multi task with Arch because its as lean as I need it to be.

Hello,
not much to say here, except that after some messing about with the BSDs, Ubuntu, Debian, SuSE, Gentoo and others I do enjoy Arch for the Moment. I like the comand line centric configuration and admimistration and the general flexibility. It actually reminds me a bit of FreeBSD.

No doubt at some Point there'll be another system catching my fancy, but for the moment I'm quite content with Archlinux

Hi guys!

My real name is Edgar, I've been using Linux for a long time. I started with using Slackware during my study, moved to Fedora, then SuSe, Ubuntu, and now Arch of course! I have to say, the distro is amazing! You learn so much about how the OS works, the wiki's are amazing, Pacman is awesome to use and Arch is blazing fast!

I will probably ask some questions on this board how to configure stuff, but I hope that I can also help others out. Well, back to updating my system! Bye!

I'm 16 and from Florida.

I've just decided that, because I plan on building my own computer soon, I should make the switch from Windows XP to Linux. And since I really want to learn Linux, I decided Arch would be a good distro to start on. I've been using Arch for about a week and am loving every moment of it.

Hi all,

i'm matthieu from France. I have been an ubuntu user since dapper because it was the first distro able to recognize my wifi card. From there I upgraded to the different updates of ubuntu (dapper, edgy, feisty, gutsy, hardy, intrebid and .... yes jaunty). Nice distro, nice community, forked from debian... But there was always something broken and i was tired to upgrade my os every 6 months (well i formated my HD at every upgrade....). Oh and gnome felt wrong like not as responsive as windows XP for example....

Before my upgrade to jaunty i tought i would give a shot to arch because i wanted to see how it compared to the boot speed and gnome responsiveness of jaunty. Well guess what....... Jaunty didn't make it because i FINALLY found my real home. The distro that FITS me. I was amazed at so much speed during the boot process and gnome .... Oh my. I almost cried (not really but i was VERY happy).

Thank you all for the distro, the wiki, the forum, aur etc ...... It really comes from my heart. Thank you all.

Hi,

I found Arch a few months ago through a friend who happened to have a CD at the time I was distro-hopping. I'm incredibly happy with it so far: good documentation, nice package management, and simple. Better even than Slackware, a favorite of mine (unfortunately without an official x64 branch).

Anyway, I'll be around, asking questions on occasion. Glad to be here!
