Fixed but don't know what broke it

I ran pacman -Syu a minute ago for the first time in 3 days. I was told that current was up to date and a new extra db was downloaded. I checked the site and noticed that many things had in fact been updated in current since I last did. I edited /etc/pacman.d/current and commented out the primary server, ftp.archlinux.org making the default ftp.archlinux.de. When I ran pacman -Syu again it updated the current db just fine.

...Why? Is ftp.archlinux.org out of date?

I don't know about this, but normally it's best to use your local mirror and let archlinux.org be used by the devs and mirrors only,

arch + gentoo + initng + python = enlisy

OK. Before now I had never edited my pacman files.

aha,
you will get faster downloads from your local mirror,
take a look at the download page for more info,

arch + gentoo + initng + python = enlisy

Refusing to sync take two!

I am unable to pull the new db from ANY of the repos. They all say I am synced. Curious indeed.
