How to burn a cd?

Been using KDE 4.2.2 with k3b from KDE3

k3b now complains upon startup that it can't find cdrecord
cdrecord is now supplied by cdrkit, but k3b can't find it (/usr/bin/cdrecord)
to burn a cd, k3b needs cdrecord
CAN'T burn a cd with k3b anymore

So ... having already had some troubles with KDE4, Gnome is installed
Open Brasero, click on burn image, click on "click here to select an image" and select one
Insert blank cd, and ah yes, it sees the blank cd
Click on "Burn"
An unknown error occurred
Click on "view log" and take a look, find this:
BraseroWodim stderr: wodim: error while loading shared libraries: libcap.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

So ... locate libcap.so and get this:
     /lib/libcap.so
     /lib/libcap.so.2
     /lib/libcap.so.2.16

Yep, that is right, Arch Linux currently doesn't have a working gui cd burner in extra.

Re: How to burn a cd?

Found a workaround till this get fixed correctly:

log into root
cd /lib
ln -s libcap.so.2 libcap.so.1

Brasero appears to be burning that cd now.

Re: How to burn a cd?

Well, it burned the cd, then hung at the "checksumming" step, just canceled it there ...  arrrg.
CD appears to have burnt.

Never symlink libraries.   A rebuilt cdrkit is in [extra].  wait for your mirror to sync.

Well, the man did say he did it as a temporary fix....so, your suggestion is to not burn anything until the mirrors sync ? What if he needed it right then and there, even re-compiling himself would have taken too much time ?

And we wonder why the year of the linux desktop never comes....

The day Microsoft makes a product that doesn't suck, is the day they make a vacuum cleaner.

Re: How to burn a cd?

@archdave, don't worry about checksum, I have the same problem, but CD's and DVD's are burning fine.
