I found a small bug in the last version of HAL available from the repository (hal-0.5.11-7). After installing it, my laptop (Sony Vaio VGN-SR21M) won't suspend to ram; instead, it simply locks the screen when it should suspend. Aslo, the screen brightness control doesn't work (I'm using KDEmod 4.2 with powerdevil as the power manager). I downgraded to hal-0.5.11-4 and everything works fine.
I opened the topic for two reasons:
1) warn other laptop owners about the problem;
2) ask for an advice: should I open a bug report? I've never did it, and the bug report guideline on the wiki is very stressing about being careful before opening a bug report (it's a bit scarying )

Ok, this thread is a bit old, but the workaround I used (sticking to hal-0.5.11-4) won't work anymore, so I decided to post again. Indeed, after upgrading to xorg-server 1.6 and catalyst 9.4 KDEmod will freeze randomly at startup; the upgrade to hal-0.5.11-7 fixes it, but the suspend to ram issue raises its ugly head again...
Does anyone have any hint for me? Thanks
Edit: I forgot a crucial point: I am speaking about the automatic suspend to ram feature at laptop screen closure, which worked smoothly with the old hal version. Sorry for the big mistake...
