Setting up Mutt

Ok I'm really lost overhere. read like 10 guides and I'm more confused than when I started
I want to use mutt to check my email(s)
For now all I need is to use my archlinux.us account ( thanks crouse big_smile )

What I managed to do so far is:
config mutt + colors
config getmail ( I can get the emails )
config msmtp so I can send emails.
So all is fine and works..but what I don't really get are all the folders! I have one huge inbox now and it gets updated/checked
How do I set different folders?
For example I joined an archlinux mailing list (the announce one)
I want to have a folder in mutt that contains only the emails from that list
Someone suggested procmail but there I got lost.
Isn't there an easier way to setup POP email? I already use 3 different applications now..I don't want a 4th sad

I am waiting for ANY kind of input from you guys..first time I use a console based email client ( used `pine` before but that was years ago )

Re: Setting up Mutt

I would just use a nice gui e-mail client. The day of text-based internet and e-mail is long gone.
Claws-mail is nice if you want something light and functional.

Don't you receive e-mail that contains more stuff then just text ?

But if they tell you that I've lost my mind, maybe it's not gone just a little hard to find...

well I do and I use Thunderbird usually, but I'd love to use a console one inside GNU Screen.

Re: Setting up Mutt

You could use fdm instead of getmail+procmail. That's what I used before I lost everything, and that's what I plan on using.

As for folders, in your muttrc, use:

mailboxes +family +friends +other_folders

To change folders, in index view, hit c. It'll prompt you for the location, and you can bring up a list if you need to. Locations would could be absolute paths, such as /home/user/something. It could also use mutt paths, like +family.

hey that worked ( I already had inbox + sent + drafts setup )
Will give fdm a go now

i use imapfilter to sort my mails, offlineimap to fetch them. offlineimap generates the mailboxes file to include iin mutt as well.
