Quick question on dual booting...

Quick question on dual booting.  I've got windows on the full drive, but if I just made a small 300gb partition I could install arch on there no problems right?  Would GRUB detect windows and auto-configure or would I need to add that in myself?

Yes and no.
Btw, you probably want to use more than just one partion for arch. Something like 32mb /boot, 1.2x ram swap, 10gb /, xxxGB /home is usually a nice setup for a destkop system.

Re: Quick question on dual booting...

Yea, I know about that.  I meant just the basic partition for it.  I'll have a /boot, /, home.  I won't need swap, I've got 8gb of ram lol.

Also, for the sake of saving bandwidth here's another question.

I'm putting a server together for about $300 not including the drives and I'm wondering do they make SATA expansion cards.  The motherboard I got has 6 sata ports on it and I was wanting to get at least 3-4 more sata drives and putting them in a RAID array.  6tb drives on the mobo and 4 on a card, is just awesome.  I need to get rid of all these externals on my desk -_-.

Re: Quick question on dual booting...

I'd just use one big /. However, GRUB will not automatically detect anything. The good news is that the default menu.lst ends with a commented out windows block. If Windows is installed on (hd0,0), all you have to do is comment that section out, and it'll work fine.

Zetsumei: yes. Silicon Image chips, also, have been rock solid in Linux for a long time.
