Hi all,
I have searched the forums but have not found any posts pertaining to my situation, only on other forums and those users were running ALSA and a different system (usually Ubuntu). So, I purchased a new laptop--HP Pavilion dv2000--and immediately installed Archlinux-2009.02 x86_64 onto the hard drive. No major problems with configuring the system to my liking except that I can't seem to get OSS to work with my output devices properly. Well, to clarify, I have added OSS support for all the sound applications that I use and have it as my system-wide sound 'device'. But..
As stated in the topic title, I receive sound from both Headphones and Speakers at the same time. If I plug in the headphones I can hear just fine but I can also hear the sound coming from the speaker as well. The only way I have figured to get sound from Headphones specifically is to open OSSXMIX and change: int-speaker mode from pcm1 to pcm2. And the way I have figured to get sound from Speakers specifically is to change: jack green mode from pcm1 to pcm2. But I have to reverse these variables to do the opposite. It's just a pain and I was wondering if there was a remedy.
EDIT: Also, I do not have ALSA installed and have made sure by disabling it (I believe) by adding !soundcore.. to the MODULES in /etc/rc.conf if that has any bearing on the situation.

This may sound stupid but from my understanding I'm using the Internal Sound card, correct? I was hoping to use my Nvidia card to play sounds.

OSS does not support jack sensing for HDAudio yet, so it does not know that you inserted the headphones to stop playing back to the speakers. So for the moment you wil have to do that manualy every time you insert the headphones.

Not a bad thing too as you can keep the speakers quiet even if you don't have your headphones plugged in
A good thing to keep you from getting embarrassed if you forget to plug your headphones

I got used to it too and am relying on this 'disfunctionality' now

I figured as much. And yeah, R00kIE, I can see the benefits of a manual transition.
No big deal, was just curious.
